What is PRP?

PRP is a non-surgical treatment that harnesses the healing power of your own body. It involves using platelets from your blood that release several growth factors, which stimulate natural tissue healing by encouraging repair and regeneration.

During PRP therapy, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient, similar to a normal blood test. The blood is then treated so that platelets and growth factors in the blood can be extracted, this is the PRP layer. This is then injected into the treatment area using a small sterile needle to improve vaginal, vulvar, and urinary function.

Intimate PRP is a procedure that involves injecting PRP into the labial and vaginal areas to improve their appearance and function. PRP injections in the labial area help to improve the labial skin, and enhance the labia’s appearance. On the other hand, PRP injections into the genital area promote healing, increase collagen production, and strengthen ligaments. Vaginal PRP can improve vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, stress incontinence, and sexual function.

Who can benefit from PRP?

PRP has been used for several years to alleviate symptoms associated with natural aging. Childbirth, menopause, aging, and other factors can change the health and anatomy of women’s vulva, urethra, and vagina.
These changes can lead to vaginal looseness, dryness, painful intercourse, vulval and vaginal shrinking and tightening, mild urinary stress incontinence, episiotomy scar pain, and lack of orgasm, all of which can significantly impact women’s lives.
Certainly, infertility treatment aims to result in first pregnancy and then birth, but sometimes a biochemical pregnancy shows that the couple and their doctor are heading in the right direction.

PRP can be of benefit for patients having difficulties with:

- Urinary leakage
- Sexual function or painful intercourse
- Vaginal dryness
- Lichen sclerosus

Unfortunately, women often suffer in silence and find it difficult to talk about these issues.
Women who receive vaginal PRP treatment may experience the following improvements:

- Increased blood supply to the area, which can lead to increased stimulation and arousal
- Increased ability to orgasm and more intense orgasms
- Reduced pain during intercourse
- Reduced pain at the episiotomy site
- Improved urinary continence
How long before I see results after the procedure?

Usually patients can expect to see results 2-3 months after the first intimate PRP treatment. Many patients may only require one session, which usually lasts 6-12 months. However, responses to treatment vary, and there is no limit to the number of treatments a patient can have. There is no recovery time after the procedure. Some patients find repeated treatments every 3-6 months very beneficial.

How much does PRP cost and why is it pricey?

There are various kits used during the extraction and processing phase of PRP treatments. The cost of these kits are often expensive for good quality. The pricing of these kits is ultimately determined by the manufacturer, and until PRP treatments become more popular, the manufacturers will have the ultimate say over the price.

In addition to the cost of components and kits, the doctor’s time and expertise typically account for the most significant fraction of the price of PRP treatments. Unlike other procedures that require little physician time and skill, PRP therapy demands extensive expertise and time. The doctor must use a precise method to ensure positive results, which requires a lot of one-on-one time with the patient. Since any procedure that requires constant physician time and skill is likely to be more expensive, the price of PRP treatment is generally higher.

If you come across a PRP treatment that is priced significantly lower than similar establishments in your area, you should be cautious. The doctor may be cutting corners and using lower quality components and equipment, or outsourcing their time and expertise to technicians.
